Ruth Porat will be the new CFO of Google and report directly to co-founder and CEO Larry Page. Porat isn’t leaving Wall Street to chase Silicon Valley money. The former Morgan Stanley CFO has been called the “most powerful woman on Wall Street” and she’s as rich as that title implies. (Porat joined Morgan Stanley in 1987; she also had a brief stint at Smith Barney.)
Porat’s long career includes helping eBay and Amazon go public. Despite her Wall Street pedigree Porat is no stranger to Silicon Valley culture: she’s the daughter of a Palo Alto engineer and she graduated from Stanford. Porat will be the highest ranking female executive at Google, in a position at the same level as that held by Sheryl Sandberg, the famous COO at Facebook.
