According to a class action lawsuit in California, Purina Beneful Dog Food includes “toxic substances which are capable of killing dogs.” It allegedly happened to one of plaintiff Frank Lucido’s dogs. Lucido owned three dogs – a German Shepard, an English Bulldog, and a Labrador. He said he started feeding the dogs Beneful, and soon after the German Shepard and the Labrador became “violently ill.” That same month, he found the English Bulldog dead in his yard. According to Lucido’s veterinarian, they all suffered from internal bleeding which the vet said was “consistent with poisoning.”
According to the Beneful class action lawsuit (Frank Lucido v. Nestle Purina Petcare Company), there have been more than 3,000 complaints posted by dog owners on the Internet “about dogs becoming ill, in many cases very seriously ill, and/or dying after eating Beneful.” The lawsuit also cites the Association for Truth In Pet Food, which claims it tested “Beneful Original and found that it contained dangerous levels of mycotoxins.”
