Adam Lasher is auditioning on American Idol this week. Expectations are high as Adam is the nephew of guitar legend Carlos Santana. But the 27-year-old Californian isn’t relying on nepotism to get him to the top. Gotta give him some credit for not changing his name to Santana.
Lasher taught himself to play the guitar in the sixth grade, and started singing in high school which he says was “a slow painful process.” He studied guitar and music theory at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he met most of the guys in his band–The Adam Lasher Band. They play a hybrid of rock, latin and jazzy blues on a regular basis at Tommy Bahama, The Cliff and Mozambique in Laguna Beach, California. Think Adam will mention his family ties? American Idol judge JLo did provide vocals for Santana’s 2007 song “This Boy’s Fire.”
