Comedian Chris Rock and his wife of nearly 20 years, Malaak Compton-Rock, filed for divorce on Sunday, December 28. The Top Five star married Compton in 1996. They live in Alpine, New Jersey, with their two daughters, Lola (12) and Zahra (10).
Compton-Rock, a Howard University grad, had a career in public relations before meeting Rock. She got involved with the US Fund for UNICEF, where she managed the organization’s celebrity spokespersons and their public appearances including those of Tea Leoni, Sarah Jessica Parker, Laurence Fishburne, and supermodel Claudia Schiffer. She then founded her own non-profit called styleWORKS, which provides clothing, hair styling and makeup services to women moving from welfare to work. Compton-Rock lives by her favorite Marian Wright Edelman quote “Service is the rent we pay for living.”
