Actor Stephen Collins (7th Heaven) sat down with ABC correspondent Katie Couric and admitted to his inappropriate sexual behavior with young girls. The complete interview will be posted on Yahoo and will air on ABC’s 20/20 on Friday, December 19. Collins has also written an essay for People which will be released Friday, too. Why is Stephen Collins going public with his admission? He says he wants people to know the truth.
On camera, Collins tells Couric that in 1973, there were two occasions when he exposed himself to a young woman. Several months later she came to stay with his family and he moved her hand to touch him inappropriately. He tells Couric that he knew at that moment that “something unthinkably wrong had happened that he couldn’t take back.” He says there were three victims from 1973 to 1994. Collins says “I have not had an impulse to act out in any such way” in the last 20 years.
