It’s been 34 years since French superstar actors Gérard Depardieu (The Green Card, Cyrano de Bergerac) and Isabelle Huppert (Amour, The Piano Teacher) worked together on the big screen. They co-starred in the sexually charged Loulou in 1980. This year the two are filming part of the new Guillaume Nicloux film The Valley of Love in the United States.
Depardieu and Huppert play two famous actors who have lost their 25-year-old son six months earliers. Before dying, the son sent them separate letters telling them to travel together to Death Valley in America. In the letters, the son tells them if they visit all five places within the National Park together and in order, he will reappear. The plot reminds us of Depardieu’s 1996 film Bogus where he plays a little boy’s imaginary friend (Bogus) who happens to be a French magician. It was a box office flop.
