Sarah Silverman did a video for the Equal Payback Project and she’s full of umbrage and the truth. And as if the truth weren’t enough, she also brings a penis–a fake one, anyway. Silverman is trying to crowdfund her payback project. The way she and the Equal Payback Project calculate it, women are owed $29,811,746,430,000. Yes, that enormously long number constitutes what women would have made over the course of their careers if only they were paid the same as men. It’s reparations–and Silverman, waving her penis, thinks women should get some.
How do you arrive at $29,811,746,430,000? It’s simple really. You take the $500,000 women on average get shorted over the course of their careers, compared to men. Then you multiply it by the 69 million working American women. (Women make on average almost $11,000 less annually than men in the US.) In order to avoid the wage gap–or what Silverman calls the “vagina gap”–she’s considering becoming “a dude.” Thus the penis. And also, you know, it gets your attention.
