Jolie’s three year marriage to Billy Bob was a social media dream, if only there’d been Twitter back then. The props for the romance included vials of blood, some very saliva-swapping public displays of affection and razorblades (for the blood, of course).
Billy Bob Thorton recently told a crowd still interested in the tempestuous romance that the blood thing wasn’t all that strange. It was a common enough little kit Angelina brought home from the store one day–two little lockets but instead of a photo or a strand of hair from your loved one, you put a little blood in it. Something to remember the other person by. Kids who try to become “blood brothers” in 5th grade know the deal. But the best part was why they needed such a potent reminder. The movies they were filming on farflung locations at the time? Angelina Jolie was making the spooky Tomb Raider and Billy Bob Thornton was shooting the terrifying Monster’s Ball. A little blood around their necks must have felt like no big deal.
