Actor Ron Perlman who plays the sinister Clay Morrow in FX’s Sons of Anarchy tried to kill himself once. He’s talking about it for the first time ever. Even his wife and mother didn’t know about his suicide attempt. All the details are in his memoir Easy Street (the Hard Way). Perlman says it was a one-off incident from a singular case of clinical depression and that he’s “remained vigilant about it not revisiting me, it never has.” There are more lighthearted stories in the book too, including memories of working with Marlon Brando, Sean Connery, Frank Sinatra and other tough guys.
Sons of Anarchy is coming to an end this season but you can see Perlman in the new Amazon series Hand of God, too. His co-star Dana Delany (China Beach) wrote a blurb for the book: “I knew that Ron Perlman was a wonderful actor and also a man of great passion and appetite. What I didn’t know was the muthafucka could write!”
