Rob Bironas, the former Tennessee Titans kicker who died alone in the car he was driving on September 20, was very drunk at the time. His blood alcohol was two-and-a-half times the legal limit. Why would a man who had such a seemingly successful life need to numb up so thoroughly? And why would he get behind the wheel? We’ll never know.
It’s a mystery to Bironas’ father, Larry Bironas, too. He told the Tennessean that his son’s death was a “sad story.” But he’s just happy that his son didn’t kill an innocent family that night. And despite it’s sad ending, his father saw his son’s life in a positive light: “Rob’s life served a purpose. He had a better 36 years than most people are going to see… The Lord took care of him as he saw to do it… Rob knew better…It should have never happened.” Strangely, Rob Bironas wasn’t coming home from a bar or club. He had been drinking at home and whatever compelled him to get into the car will remain a mystery. It’s a mystery his 68-year-old father will have to live with.
