Welsh-born actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Rose Winters in the upcoming film adaptation of the BBC TV series Dad’s Army. It’s a comedy that takes play during the climax of World War II. Winters is a glamorous journalist who is covering the Home Guard in Walmington-on-Sea, a small seaside town that finds itself unable to defend itself as the platoon is comprised of men too old or unsuited for combat duty.
The original Dad’s Army TV show, which aired on the BBC from 1968 to 1977, is regarded as one of Britain’s greatest TV comedies. The film, which will start shooting in Yorkshire this month. Dad’s Army will be directed by Oliver Parker, who directed Johnny English Reborn starring Rowan Atkinson and Othello starring Laurence Fishburne, with Kenneth Branagh as Iago.
