Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, except, of course, when it kills you. A British cafe is serving a whopping 8,000-calorie gluttony-fest that it calls “The Hibernator” (presumably because eating it will put you down for weeks). The Bear Grills Cafe in Manchester is challenging patrons to eat the meal for a chance to win £100 ($160). Of course, you have to sign a health-waiver first. According to cafe owner Mark Winder, “Younger guys come in, and it is all men who have tried the challenge, and they look at the ingredients up on the board and say: ‘I am going to smash that. ‘But then they see it come out on the big platter all heaped high and start to cry on the phone to their friends. They give up after about twenty minutes.’”
The breakast of champions includes eight eggs (four fried and a four-egg cheese omelette), eight sausages, eight pieces of bacon, four pieces of toast, four waffles, four pieces of fried bread (because, Hell, why not?), mushrooms, beans and tomatoes, four hash brown patties and chips (a.k.a french fries). The breakfast also includes four slices of black pudding, which if you’ve never had it, is delicious, but, well, it’s basically congealed pig’s blood. Oh, and a 32-ounce strawberry milkshake. Twenty people have tried the challenge… and failed.
