The 4-0 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, ranked #9, host Stanford this Saturday afternoon. The Irish are coming off a road (sort of) win against Syracuse at MetLife Stadium last week. In that 31-15 victory Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson completed 32 out of 39 passes for 362 yards and 4 touchdowns. People are starting to believe that Golson is a Heisman contender. Notre Dame had to do without Golson last year, as he took a year away to get his academic house in order–and the team and Golson have mutually responded with a 2014 performance that proves they’re glad to be together again. How far can this Notre Dame team go?
They could go undefeated, despite facing what some have called the toughest schedule of any team this season. That’s Notre Dame’s only hope for a playoff bid, according to Dennis Dodd at CBS. And an undefeated season would sure put the shine on Golson’s Heisman chances. After Stanford, ND will face North Carolina and Florida State in October. If they beat the Seminoles, that zero has a serious chance of staying at the end of their record. Right now Notre Dame is a 25/1 shot at winning the championship, but no one is better than 13/2 (Alabama). Stanford vs. Notre Dame is Saturday at 3:30 pm ET on NBC.
