This young Tennessee squad doesn’t represent the best of the SEC, but the Volunteers are confident going into Oklahoma this weekend for a Big 12-SEC matchup. Tennessee quarterback Justin Worley is spreading the ball with accuracy (and just one interception) and the Vols defense is stepping up on third down situations. To continue that, they’ll have to hope Oklahoma actually allows them manageable third down situations to step up on–and that the powerful Sooners don’t just keep running the ball for first downs early.
Coming off the Sugar Bowl win against Alabama to conclude last season, the Sooners are hoping to establish a dominance over the SEC that translates into strong playoff consideration. Both teams are 2-0 going into Saturday night at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The 21-point spread favoring Oklahoma might be high if Worley can find some room. But it’s the annual “Stripe the Stadium” game–Norman should be raucous–and peace of mind will be hard to find for the opposing team.
