CBS announcer Phil Simms and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning are in a bad relationship. Well it’s not so much Manning as his friends that Simms doesn’t like. There’s just something about the Denver Broncos that bothers Phil Simms. Always has. Simms can’t seem to help it–or hide it. And it was all okay until they started having to see each other so often, which began recently. TV loves Peyton Manning and the Broncos. They win, they wear orange, they play in a beautiful state. Manning’s the biggest name in the game–and he’s a good citizen, too–a sorely needed commodity in the NFL.
So Bronco Buster Phil Simms, with his broadcasting partner Jim Nantz, is doing Denver Broncos games a lot these days. There’s a perception that Simms argues against the Broncos on every call, even saying “I don’t mean to root against the Broncos, but…” So Broncos fans have started a petition at change.org that asks CBS to ban Simms and his bias from the Broncos booth. As of now 30,000 people have signed the Ban Phil Simms Petition.
