No. 8 Notre Dame plays unranked Syracuse tonight at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. That’s a long way from South Bend, Indiana–but given the legions of Fighting Irish faithful in the New York metropolitan area it may feel like a home game for ND. It will be, at the very least, a colorful affair (or a drab one, depending on your opinion of gray). Syracuse has apparently been studying not just Notre Dame offensive formations, but also the commodities markets–with a special eye on precious metals. The markets are one place that platinum always outranks gold. So ‘Cuse is countering Notre Dame’s famous gold helmets with some new uniforms–the Syracuse platinum edition.
They may look gray to you, but these Syracuse uniforms are platinum–got it? It could be working–this game opened with Notre Dame (3-0) a 13 point favorite but the line is in single digits now. Vegas has heard about the platinum, too, perhaps. The Orangemen (2-1) don’t wear a lot of orange these days–sometimes blue, sometimes white–but word is the memorable TV-friendly Syracuse orange helmets will be what’s crashing against all that gold under the Meadowlands lights beginning at 8pm on ABC. If Syracuse can score against a stingy Notre Dame defense that’s given up only 31 points in three games, the Orange fans–and they’ll be there, if outnumbered–will be easy converts to platinum.
