Rumors are spreading that actress Nina Dobrev will quit The Vampire Diaries due to her relationship with her co-star and former boyfriend Ian Somerhalder (who has moved on romantically with Dobrev’s friend, Twilight actress Nikki Reed). Reed has been showing up on the set, which is near the home that Somerhalder and Reed now share. Awkward!
A better explanation of a possible exit from Vampire Diaries is Dobrev’s pursuit of a film career. She had a role in Let’s Be Cops–which had the unfortunate timing of being released at the time of the Ferguson shooting and protests this summer–but she also landed the lead role in The Final Girls. Dobrev plays a young woman grieving the loss of her mother, a famous scream queen from the 1980s. She gets pulled into the world of her mother’s most famous movie and then must fight off the film’s killer. It’s half comedy, half horror. The only thing missing from The Final Girls is fappening victim and former scream queen actress Mary E. Winstead. The Final Girls will be released in 2015.
