Movie star Matt Damon is said to be “eager to reprise” his Robert Ludlum superspy role as Jason Bourne, and with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatium writer/director Paul Greengrass (more recently of Captain Phillips fame). It’s news because Damon turned his back on the Bourne franchise once Jason got his memory back. Jeremy Renner played Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy (2012). Jason Bourne does not appear in the film. Damon is currently filming Ridley Scott’s The Martian. Damon plays Mark Watney, an astronaut stranded on Mars who struggles to survive. The screenplay is based on Andy Weir’s debut (self-published!) novel, The Martian. (Weir is a software engineer by day.) Astronaut Chris Hadfield, Commander of the International Space Station, said The Martian was: “A book I just couldn’t put down! It has the very rare combination of a good, original story, interestingly real characters and fascinating technical accuracy…reads like ‘MacGyver’ meets ‘Mysterious Island.’” Jessica Chastain (Tree of Life, Zero Dark Thirty, A Most Violent Year) will co-star, presumably during the scenes that take place on earth.
