LA Lakers physical therapist Dr. Judy Seto has seen a lot of Kobe Bryant. In fact she’s seen a lot of all the Lakers–she’s been around the team for years and full time for the last couple. One of the great things about Chris Ballard’s recent profile of Kobe in Sports Illustrated was that after reading it, you wanted to know even more. Well to augment the profile Ballard just published a deeper version of his interview with Dr. Seto. It’s intriguing because much as he’s renowned for his smarts, Kobe is who he is primarily because of his extraordinary physical accomplishments. Who would know more about Kobe and his method then, than his physical therapist?
Seto was asked what the one thing she would choose if she could take only one piece of equipment on the road–specifically for Kobe’s needs. Dr. Seto said: “There’s a machine called a Shuttle. It’s a leg press. It’s multifaceted because you can change the resistance. But you can do leg press exercise, you can do explosive jumping off of it, you can do calf work, you can do core work, you can do glute work, hip work, hamstring work. There’s all these different things that this piece of equipment can assist you with.”
