Prior to his trip to New York City, the 6’5″ tall, 23-year-old Matteo Berrettini competed at the 2019 Cincinnati Open. While he didn’t make it to the second round, he won the attention of many when he took off his shirt at practice (see photos below). One fan wrote: “That smile is melt worthy.”

Other than Cincy, 2019 has been a good year for Berrettini. In April he won the Swiss Open, in April he won the Hungarian Open, and in June he won the Stuttgart Open.
Berrettini also made his first Grand Slam Round of 16 this year, at Wimbledon after defeating Diego Schwartzman. (Roger Federer crushed him in the fourth round (6-1, 6-2) and Novak Djokovic won the title.)
