During the Round of 16 at the 2019 US Open, 23 Grand Slam title holder Serena Williams faces world No. 22 Petra Martic on Sunday, September 1. The 28-year-old pro from Croatia is making a comeback after struggling with injuries including a major back injury (a disc protrusion in her lower back).
In April she won the Istanbul Cup in Turkey. In May, she reached the top 30 for the first time in her career, and made it to the fourth round at the 2019 French Open (her first ever Grand Slam quarterfinal) and achieved the same a month later at Wimbledon.
After Wimbledon and before the US Open, Martic and her coach, former tennis pro Sandra Zaniewska (she’s one year younger than Martic!) went on vacation together and enjoyed the sun in cute bikinis (see photo below).
Player and coach share a good sense of humor after Indian Wells…
Martic defeated Anastasija Sevastova in the third round of the 2019 US Open to advance to the fourth round (the Round of 16).
