In The Big Bang Theory episode “The Confirmation Polarization”, while Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) has a big success at work, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy’s (Mayim Bialik) super asymmetry theory is proven by two physicists, Dr. Pemberton and Dr. Campbell from Chicago. The married couple is thrilled until they try to kick Amy off the Nobel nomination.
[Astin played the beloved role of Rudy]
Rival physicist Dr. Campbell is portrayed by actor Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar movies). Physicist Dr. Pemberton on The Big Bang Theory is portrayed by Sean Astin, son of the late Oscar-winning actress Patty Duke (The Miracle Worker) and stepson of Oscar-nominated actor John Astin (Gomez on The Addams Family). Sean Astin is known for his on-camera roles in films including The Lord of the Rings (Sam), Rudy (Rudy, SEE LINK ABOVE, try not to cry), Encino Man (Dave) and The Goonies (Mikey), among others. He was nominated for an Oscar for the 1994 short film Kangaroo Court starring the late great actor/dancer Gregory Hines; Astin directed.
Fun fact: Actors Bialik, Penn and Astin are all graduates of UCLA. The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8 pm on CBS, right before its spin-off Young Sheldon. [Watch It Again: Stream any CBS show through Amazon Prime or CBS ALL-ACCESS. Both options offer free trials.]

Just to set the record straight: John Astin was Sean Astin’s stepson…
Did you know that Sean Astin’s dad is John Astin?
That’s right, Sam’s dad is Gomez from the Addam’s Family. pic.twitter.com/sVNZRblY5f
