FunCakes is a company in Grand Rapids, Michigan that rents fake cakes to customers. Don’t worry, they know FunCakes are fake. While the outside looks real (they’re covered with real fondant), the inside is Styrofoam. There’s a section in the back of a FunCake where real cake (inexpensive sheet cake) is hidden and can be cut and served to party guests. Why buy a fake cake? If you’ve ever gone wedding cake shopping, you’ll know why. They’re super expensive! Plus, with FunCakes, customers don’t have to worry about the cake melting or falling apart. FunCakes arrive in one piece. The founder of FunCakes, Kimberly Aya, pitched her business on Shark Tank in October 2014. She went into the Tank seeking an investment of $285,000 in exchange for 25 percent equity but she left empty-handed.
