In the Season 3 episode of Little Big Shots, “Give Us S’mores,” host Steve Harvey meets the singing trio TNT Boys from the Philippines. They choose to sing the Queen song “Somebody to Love,” and they nail it. The soul-searching song, written by the late Queen lead singer and pianist Freddie Mercury, is about a man who questions his life without love and the role of God in his lonely life. The lyrics include: “Lord what you’re doing to me (yeah yeah)/ I have spent all my years in believing you/ But I just can’t get no relief, Lord!” When Queen recorded the song, the band layered their voices so it sounded like a giant gospel choir.

It’s well known that Mercury was heavily influenced by the Queen of Soul, Miss Aretha Franklin, while writing “Somebody to Love” in 1976. In the interview below, he says he would love to have Franklin sing “Somebody to Love” but it never happened. “I wish I could sing like her,” says Mercury. “When I sing, I think of her.” New episodes of Little Big Shots air Thursdays at 8pm on NBC.
