In the Speechless episode ‘D-I– DIMEO A-C—ACADEMY,’ after a dust-up with Lafayette High, JJ’s (Micah Fowler) mother Maya (Minnie Driver) launches her own school out of the DiMeo family home. Her two other kids Ray (Mason Cook) and Dylan (Kyla Kenedy) enroll — and even her husband Jimmy (John Ross Bowie) joins the faculty. Meanwhile, Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough) is determined to prove to his ex-wife Robin that he’s living a successful life.
Ex-wife Robin is portrayed by Tamala Jones. She’s known for her roles on Castle (Lanie Parish), My Name Is Earl (Liberty Washington), The Tracy Morgan Show (Alicia Mitchell), For Your Love (Bobbi Seawright), ER (Joanie Robbins), Veronica’s Closet (Tina), and Dangerous Minds (Callie Timmons), among others. Fun facts about Jones: She was also in the Wu-Tang Clan videos “Gravel Pit” and “Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)”. And in the 1990s Jones was in the Martin Lawrence/Luke Wilson movie Blue Streak (Janiece) and the Jamie Foxx and Tommy Davdison movie Booty Call (Nikki). Speechless airs Wednesdays at 8:30pm on ABC, right after The Goldbergs, and right before Modern Family.
