The Google Home Mini is cute. It’s like one of those kid singers on those TV reality talent shows who stands like 3 feet tall and then belts out a song like she’s Aretha Franklin. That’s the Google Home Mini — a whole world of powerful actionable data in a tiny soft package. Soft? Yup, it’s more fabric than plastic. If Google wants to own your home in an unassuming way, then the Google Home Mini is the perfect Trojan Horse. Did we mention it’s cute? It’s adorable. And it reportedly comes in a variety of colorways — stylized as chalk, charcoal, and coral — like the variety of rooms it hopes to occupy.
The voice-controlled device works with Google Assistant, accesses your Gmail and Google Calendar, and can be set up to control the temperature. Basically there’s no difference between a good ad for the Google Home Mini and an episode of The Jetsons. The future is now. And the future is just $49. The Google Home Mini was briefly available for pre-order on the following pages at WALMART Google Smart Home Page (release date October 19 or October 29) and BEST BUY Google Smart Home Page. Keep checking these Walmart and Best Buy Google pages for pre-order info after Google’s announcement on October 4 at the Google Hardware Event (VIDEO BELOW). Other reports have an October 29 release date. Amazon’s Echo Dot, so far Google’s chief competitor, is priced at $50 too.
