Norm of the North “quickly goes south.” Norm of the North is one lazy production. (“Condescension and laziness,” says Arkansas Online.) Kids won’t like it unless”they’re hoping to be bored stupid for an hour and a half,” offers NOW Toronto. Norm of the North “gives animated movies a bad name.” Ouch, Alex Bentley.
But the film — with voice work from Rob Schneider, Heather Graham and Ken Jeong — still has a chance to prove itself at the box office. Just this summer the New York Daily News said the animated Minions “wears out its welcome in 20 minutes, and Sandra Bullock is bad” — calling it “91 minutes of yellow-tinged hell.” Forbes called Minions a “huge letdown.” But Minions had the biggest opening day ever for an animated film in North America, and has made over $1 billion. To be successful, on thing’s for sure: Norm of the North will have to draw a different crowd than those lingering in the comments area of Katie Rife’s blistering Norm review at AV Club. Rob Schneider never had a chance with these movie fans.
