On The Big Bang Theory, while interviewing for a Star Trek documentary – with Leonard Nimoy’s son, Adam! – Sheldon (Jim Parsons) reveals to Adam Nimoy, Wil Wheaton, Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) that he was planning to propose to his girlfriend Amy (Mayim Bialik) before she broke up with him. After having an emotional breakdown/breakthrough, Sheldon leaves the apartment and says he’s going to propose once and for all. But when he gets to Amy’s place, he sees her kissing the tall guy “Dave” goodbye. They met via an online dating app.

Dave is portrayed by Stephen Merchant. The Englishman started his career as a writer for the Meet Ricky Gervais show and the original series, The Office. Merchant continued to write and act beside Gervais in Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show and the American version of The Office. Merchant recently got his own show, Hello Ladies, which was made into a 2014 film of the same title. Fun fact: Merchant is 6’7” tall. The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8pm on CBS.
