Fox premiered its new cop medical drama Rosewood on September 23, and despite decent ratings it took some nasty hits from viewers. IGN reported that the pilot of Rosewood “arrived DOA.” “Dumb” was a word that got tossed around on social media. Rosewood stars Jaina Lee Ortiz as Detective Villa and Morris Chestnut (Boyz N The Hood, The Best Man) as the “irritating” private pathologist, Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr.
On paper, the character of Rosewood is easy to compare to the prickly Dr. Gregory House of House, MD, but critics aren’t digging Rosewood. His character is “so aggravating that if I were a cop I’d rather see a thousand murder cases go unsolved than have to spend more than a minute with him,” says IGN. Ouch. Like House, Rosewood has a personal secret and physical ailment. Rosewood has two holes in his heart and has about ten years left to live. Still, not much sympathy is going around for Rosewood. Maybe he needs a cane? Or more scenes with his shirt off? (The handsome Chestnut apparently asked for fewer shirtless scenes, though he did acknowledge that people enjoy it when he strips down.) From the early reaction it seems that Dr. Rosewood would have to go naked for this to work. He may have ten years to live, Rosewood may not.
