It’s been 22 years since former NFL star OJ Simpson led the Los Angeles Police Department on a low-speed chase after the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. In a 1993 white Bronco, Simpson sat in the backseat while friend A.C. Cowlings drove. News helicopters followed as millions of TV viewers watched. The Bronco became a part of American lore. According to Bloomberg.com, Ford Motor Co. is now considering bringing back the Bronco (and its small pickup Ranger, which they stopped making in 2011). Both models would be built at Ford’s Wayne, Michigan factory.
Analyst John Wolkonowicz says it would be a good move. “Gen Y has discovered the original Bronco. Ford has seen what the Mustang can do for them, and they are bringing back their iconic names.” He should know, he used to be a product planner for Ford. Where is the Cowlings’ Bronco? According to USA Today, the year Ford stopped making Broncos (in 1996), “porn king” Michael Pulwer bought the infamous truck for $200,000.
