If you love cats, you’ll love the idea of Gato Café. If you’re allergic to cats, you will hate the idea of Gato Café. Entrepreneur Adriana Montano is trying to raise money to open Florida’s first cat café. Imagine a coffee shop where unwanted/homeless cats can wander around and that’s Gato Cafe. It’s a place where cat lovers can meet each other, play with the cats, and hopefully adopt a new cat. The concept is popular in Asia and gaining some momentum in Europe, but it’s having a bumpy start in the States.

A cat café in Denver was recently sued by a customer who was scratched by a cat. And even if Montano can raise the money, which will be difficult (coffee shops are a crap shoot), she still needs to convince the State of Florida that her Gato Café is worthy of a permit. And a liquor license! Montano said if she reaches her fundraising goal, they will serve beer and wine, too. There are currently no cat cafes in the Sunshine State.
