Jared Axen is a nurse with a beautiful voice and a beautiful attitude toward living–and dying. Some of his patients are in great pain; others are near their ends. Axen insists on each patient’s dignity and individualism–and he honors this by singing to them.
The Valencia Hospital in California is often alive with Axen’s heartfelt and accomplished vocals. He uses his voice “to personalize” the care. One elderly patient says, with a trembling voice, that Axen “pierces my heart.” Hymms, Sinatra, selections from the Great American Songbook are all part of the genial nurse’s repertoire. “Thank you for singing to me and putting a smile on my face! You are beautiful human being!” says one commenter.
