Looking for something the whole family can watch and enjoy this winter break? Tired of Disney animations? Can’t bare to watch It’s a Wonderful Life for the tenth time? Well, get the popcorn ready. These five light-hearted comedies stand the test of time. They’re surefire crowd pleasers.
Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) – After a bitter divorce, Robin Williams disguises himself as an old woman, a nanny, to spend more time with his kids who live with his ex-wife. Bonus: Pierce Bronsan plays the ex-wife’s new beau.
What About Bob? (1991) – Bill Murray plays a manipulative, obsessively compulsive narcissist who tracks down his psychotherapist Richard Dreyfuss. Law & Order fans: Kathryn Erbe plays Dreyfuss’ daughter!
Uncle Buck (1989) – Bachelor John Candy babysits his brother’s kids in suburban Chicago. He makes the world’s largest pancake. Macaulay Culkin and Gaby Hoffmann are edible.
Big (1988) – When a boy wishes to be big, he wakes up and finds himself in an adult body. Tom Hanks is perfection. His friend Billy is played by Jared Rushton, who was also in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Overboard which some might argue should be on this list, too.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) – Dorky scientist father Rick Moranis accidentally shrinks the kids to the size of insects. Awesome special effects.
