Former Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks has been known to wear shawls on stage, so it only makes sense that Stevie judges a shawl design contest. Okay, the contest was Stevie’s idea. She asked her fans to design one for her to model. Hundreds of entries were received, but only one took first-place. (As only one can.)
Celeste Meyeres (aka Crickets Meyeres) of Kanab, Utah (population 4,468) won with her shawl named NAY-TIV RAY-VIN. Meyeres said rather than emulating Stevie Nicks’ style, she wanted to “offer her a part of herself as well, incorporating her Native American heritage…along with the ravens that grace the Southwestern high desert.” Stevie posted a note on the contest Web page. She said she chose Meyeres’ because she felt it “could have been made for Rhiannon or for Gold Dust Woman.” Meyeres will receive $2000 and a photo of Nicks wearing the shawl, which will be returned after the photo shoot.
