A man was arrested for stealing nearly 300 batteries (worth $60k) from electronic roadside signs meant to provide traffic or road hazard updates to motorists throughout Westchester County, New York. He made at least $20k by selling them for scrap at recycling centers.
The thefts took place along heavily-trafficked parkways, many lacking shoulders to pull-over onto. The batteries weigh between 55 and 96 pounds each and cost $200 when purchased new. A man who could pull this off seems employable.
