My 600-lb Life featured the life of Melissa Morris, a woman who lost 500 pounds after gastric bypass surgery performed by Dr. Nowzadan. At 137 lbs., Melissa was asked by Dr. Nowzaradan to work as a patient liaison at his office to help others during their weight loss journeys. Unfortunately, Melissa hasn’t been able to shed all her problems away. She has since faced marital problems with her husband Chris and struggles with life as a single mom. Four years after her weight loss surgery, Melissa became pregnant and gained 100 lbs. during the pregnancy. She said, “It might be crazy to have thought this, but I really expected to give birth and quickly be back to my pre-baby weight.” She gave birth to a healthy child in May 2010.

While Melissa says she never wants to go back to weighing over 600 lbs., she also says “being fat was way easier than my current life.” Melissa continues to try to help others from her experience. She says she belongs to “a secret club” which has her talking to other extremely overweight people — to listen to their stories and to let them know that they’re not alone. Is former My 600-lb Life subject Christina in the club too? (After losing 525 lbs., Christina divorced her husband.) See photo above. My 600-lb Life airs Wednesdays at 8pm on TLC.
