Danica Patrick couldn’t help but be the face of women in NASCAR, and it’s a role she has mostly embraced. Lately some incidents let people know that the weight has been heavy at times. In June Patrick calmly approached some fans who were giving her grief and explained why they should stop booing. “Since I’m old,” she said, “instead of taking the booing, I want to tell you I’m doing the very best I can.”
Patrick again responded positively and in good faith to the latest blindside she’s faced. And it’s the biggest hit Patrick has taken in a while: Stewart-Haas Racing announced a new sponsor/driver for the 2018 season. That means Patrick will have to find a new home. The seasoned driver sounded grateful and confident in her public reply, however shaken she may have been by the news. After thanking Tony Stewart and Gene Haas — and touting some of her accomplishments like a “Daytona 500 pole” and “seven top-10 finishes” — Patrick said her focus would be on finishing 2017 strong. And, of course, on her future. “I have the utmost faith in myself and those around me,” she wrote, “and feel confident about my future.”
