National Spelling Bee champion Akash Vukoti, 6, first appeared on Little Big Shots in 2016. His parents noticed something different about Akash before he was one, and had his intelligence tested. Turns out Akash, then 4 years old, has an I.Q. of 146 and a photographic memory which helps when studying for spelling bees.

Akash comes by his intelligence and curiosity honestly — his older sister, his father (a scientist at George Tech) and his engineer mother are all members of Mensa. Mensa is the world famous global high IQ society which says “membership in Mensa is open to persons who have attained a score within the upper two percent of the general population on an approved intelligence test that has been properly administered and supervised.” Akash is one of Mensa’s younger members. Little Big Shots airs Sundays at 7pm and 8pm on NBC.
