Salesforce’s imminent acquisition of Demandware gets the powerful CRM specialist that much closer to the customer. Demandware allows Salesforce to power up its cloud-based retail and ecommerce, while delivering an established ecommerce engine and all the data that comes with the platform. Demandware clients include Cole Haan, Adidas, L’Oréal, Lands’ End and Brooks Brothers. The company, based in Massachusetts, has 1,000 employees worldwide.
Salesforce will pay $2.8 billion in cash for Demandware, or $75 per share. Demandware’s shares were up more than 50% on the news. Salesforce will rebrand the Demandware cloud e-commerce platform as Salesforce Commerce Cloud and integrate it in various ways with its existing Customer Success Platform. The acquisition gives Salesforce more direct engagement with the customer and the customer experience at “every touch point.” The data-mining synergies stand to benefit both operations as they combine forces.
