September 9 was supposed to be iPhone 6 Day in Apple world. As usual, hot anticipation for the next-gen iPhone dominates Apple watcher news. The earlier announcement of a scheduled Apple event for September 9 had everybody screaming iPhone 6! But how much longer will the next iPhone news be the biggest thing out of Apple? If yesterday is any clue, maybe not for long. Re/code reported that the Apple smartwatch will be part of the September 9 hoopla–and the Internet, and Apple’s competition, went nuts.
Samsung and LG immediately changed the pace of their smartwatch intros. LG had planned to announce its Android-based smartwatch next week (big news–it’s circular!)–but on hearing Apple’s plans for the iWatch, LG sent out the specs of its new wearable device immediately. Samsung followed suit, announcing more details on its new smartwatch, the Samsung Gear S, right on the heels of LG’s announcement.
