U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) expressed frustration on the Senate floor while arguing against the rising cost of healthcare for Americans. As seen below, Cassidy — a physician — slammed the podium twice with his hand and, addressing President Trump, yelled, “Get engaged!” He added, “Mr. President, too many people have this debt, $10,000 on their credit card, related to paying in part for things such as medical expenses and they are going down.”

Democrats are seizing the moment and amplifying the video with the comment: “BREAKING: In a stunning moment, Republican Senator Bill Cassidy just personally blamed Donald Trump for the rise in healthcare costs in our country. Woah.”
X users on both sides of the aisle are responding with disappointment aimed at Cassidy, with comments including, “With nothing to lose, #SenCassidy finally finds some courage to speak the Truth!” One MAGA supporter added, “Buh bye Senator. This is the kind a hogwash that got you sent packing, so buh bye.”
[NOTE: Cassidy lost his GOP primary in May to Trump-endorsed Rep. Julia Letlow and state Treasurer John Fleming, both of whom have advanced to a runoff election on June 27.]
Others are criticizing the Democrats’ characterization of the Cassidy moment, including one who wrote: “Not quite factually correct.. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) did not blame Donald Trump for creating the rising healthcare and medical debt costs. Instead, he publicly pleaded with Trump to collaborate with Congress on solutions to lower these costs and alleviate the financial burden on American families. Addressing the Senate, Cassidy demanded Trump ‘get engaged’ on the medical debt crisis, criticizing insurance companies and hospitals for profiting while everyday consumers suffer. It is fine if you dislike a politician (either party) just use facts and correct context when posting otherwise you come across like a twit.”
