The real answer to why NBA superstar and new Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant didn’t consider playing for his hometown Washington Wizards is that he believes it’s time for him to “explore other parts of the world playing basketball.” As Durant says, “I played up until I was 18, 17 at home, so I played all my time…”
But the funny answer to why Durant never considered a DC homecoming is because of the abject horribleness of the Washington Redskins, who just fired their head coach after starting the NFL season 0-5. Durant smiled when asked if he hesitated about a Washington return because the Redskins were so bad it could “leak into every part of the DC area.”
The genial and funny Durant admitted: “that is one thing I worry about, of course, the curse, I guess, of the Skins over the city. I can say that.” Durant is clearly enjoying himself already in a way he didn’t quite seem to while at Golden State. That’s a very genuine sports fan’s smile he flashes.
