U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), who lost his GOP primary to Trump-endorsed candidate Ed Gallrein, continues to push back against the President, including his demand that Congress pair an extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) with the SAVE Act.
[NOTE: Section 702 of FISA, which authorizes the warrantless surveillance of foreigners abroad, expired on Friday after Congress failed to pass an extension. On Monday, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said the Senate will try to pass an FISA extension without the SAVE Act.]
Trump wrote on social media: “I’m against FISA if it doesn’t come with The Save America Act (Full version!) firmly attached to it.”
You can be mad at me for telling you these are lies, but these are lies:

Massie responded: “You can be mad at me for telling you these are lies, but these are lies: ‘I will not approve FISA without THE SAVE AMERICA ACT going along with it.’ ‘I’m against FISA if it doesn’t come with The Save America Act (Full version!) firmly attached to it.’ It’s a trick for the weak.”
[NOTE: When asked if he’s concerned that Trump might veto the FISA bill because it doesn’t include the SAVE Act, Thune said, “I certainly would hope if we can get FISA off the floor, he would sign it.”]
Massie also responded to the House Freedom Caucus, which echoed Trump’s desire to pair FISA with the SAVE Act: “I like the Freedom Caucus, but attaching the SAVE Act to warrantless spying is dumb. Why would we let the government spy on us in exchange for anything? After we trade the Fourth Amendment for parliamentary advantage, what shall we trade the First and Second Amendments for?”
