Former MAGA-aligned U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) continues to criticize the Trump administration for what she sees has hypocrisy. On Wednesday, Greene called out the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, led by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., for what she characterized as secretly funding Planned Parenthood state affiliates, after Trump imposed a executive order to withhold federal funds.

With a link to a Politico report about the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) dropping its lawsuit against the Trump administration for withholding millions of dollars in family planning funds, after the “HHS quietly restored the money in December,” Greene wrote: “Now the Trump admin is funding Planned Parenthood?”

While many MAGA supporters on social media have responded by accusing Greene of lying about the government’s funding of Planned Parenthood, in a court filing on December 19, Trump’s U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro told the court “the review is completed, and all grants at issue for Plaintiff’s members have been restored.”
Clare Coleman, CEO of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, which led the lawsuit, said “There was no basis for HHS withholding the grants. They didn’t have anything to stand on.” She added, “We feel like without litigation, the money would be gone.”
Note: According to Planned Parenthood’s 2022-2023 Annual Report, abortion services make up approximately 3-4% of all health services they provided, with the vast majority of care focused on preventative services like STI testing, cancer screenings, and contraception.
Anti-abortion conservatives who are demanding permanent defunding of Planned Parenthood will rally in Washington on Friday, January 23 for the annual March for Life.
