The world’s largest philosophy and music festival is finally back to change the way you see the world. HowTheLightGetsIn returns to Hay-on-Wye to explore the festival theme: Fantasy and Reality. The festival is programmed by the Institute of Art and Ideas and famed for bringing together thought-provoking debates with legendary parties. The 2015 program is set to be bigger and better than ever, with a line-up of world-leading speakers and performers spanning from Terry Eagleton, Brooke Magnanti, Roger Penrose, John Ellis and Warren Ellis to Mike Skinner, Rae Morris, Lianne le Havas, Jamie Woon and Molotov Jukebox.
Questions that will be fiercely debated over 11 days include whether Artificial Intelligence is in fact ‘the most serious threat facing mankind’ with Roger Penrose, Nigel Shadbolt and Warren Ellis. Philosophers Simon Blackburn and Mary Midgley will challenge neuroscientist Colin Blakemore whether the self is just a fantasy and Paul Krugman, Pippa Malmgren and Alex Callinicos will ask whether we are in urgent need of a radical alternative to capitalism.
