A man visiting Bobby Flay Steak at the Borgata in Atlantic City asked his waitress to recommend a bottle of wine. First, he wanted to know how much it would cost. The waitress told him “thirty-seven-fifty” according to the account Joe Lentini gives NJ.com. That, unbeknownst to Lentini, meant $3,750! Though he had the wine list, Lentini wasn’t wearing his glasses. Let that be a lesson to you.
Lentini said afterwards he would never have ordered such an expensive bottle. But the miscommunication was understandable, if you consider the aftermath. The waitress had sized up her crowd pretty well after all. After Lentini complained, he was able to negotiate the price down to $2,200–which the party paid. The wine by the way? Screaming Eagle, Oakville 2011.
