Retired U.S. Army General Jack Keane, who served as U.S. Army vice chief of staff during the George W. Bush administration, told Sean Hannity on Fox News on Monday that President Trump’s MOU with Iran is a “performance-based” peace agreement. Keane said: “I see no evidence the behavior of the Iranian regime will change.”
Keane, who is a Fox News senior strategic analyst and chairman of the Institute for the Study of War, said: “I can’t square some of the things that are coming out of the administration from reliable sources. That’s what I find so disturbing. When I heard it from the Iranians I dismissed it, I said that’s the same nonsense we’re always hearing. Some of the things you have heard, that’s in this deal, that it makes no sense whatsoever. It’s not defensible.” Keane suggested that the President “just release” the MOU.

GOP operative David Urban, who served as a senior advisor on Trump’s 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns, told CNN of the MOU with Iran: “If it was good news, it would have been leaked. We’d all know about it. Donald Trump would stay around to sign and pass out pens. The fact that he is getting out of town does not bode well.”
[NOTE: The President is at the G7 Summit in France. He said he and Vice President JD Vance signed the agreement digitally.]
Urban added, “I do not trust the Iranians.” He added that the Iranians “maybe put things on pause, but they’ve been exporting terror through their proxies.”
Talking about the potential release of some of the Iranian assets — which he says may be nearly $100 billion — frozen since 1979, and also addressing reports of an unconfirmed $300 billion fund Iran could access to rebuild, Urban said: “Why would we want to help Iran in any way, shape or form with this hateful theocracy still in power? It’s just beyond me.”

On Tuesday from France, Trump said he will “probably” hold a press conference this week and read the full MOU with Iran. He said he will “read it to you word-by-word, so that the press covers it accurately, because it’s a very important document.”
Trump added, “And unlike Obama, who could have destroyed the Middle East with a horrible JCPOA — it is the worst agreement that was a road to a nuclear weapon — mine is a wall against a nuclear weapon.”
Trump said: “Obama paid a fortune for it, we paid nothing.”

Fox News also featured skeptics of the deal who, like Bret Baier, pointed out inconsistencies in President Trump’s previous statements about the level of damage the U.S. has inflicted on Iran during the war.
Baier said: “You hear what the president says. He says their Navy is at the bottom of the water. Their air force is gone. They’ve been degraded in missiles. However, we see Iranian missiles fire at U.S. bases and fire at ships. They say the Strait’s going to be open. Iran says something differently in how they talk about it.”
