While President Trump’s Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and other Republicans including Rep. Roger Marshall (R-KS) continue to blame the Biden administration for what are reportedly three New World Screwworm cases detected in Texas, the well-known Trump-supporting cattle company in Wyoming, Meriweather Farms, is calling out Rollins and the USDA on social media.
[NOTE: Rollins told CNBC’s Squawk Box that screwworm began to get close to the U.S. due to “Biden’s open borders” and that “not much had been done to push back” before Trump took office. Marshall said, “This is another thing we can thank Joe Biden for.”]
Meriweather Farms wrote today: “What’s more tragic is that that [sic] USDA had plenty of time to act in the last 15 months to minimize and even prevent this crisis from unfolding —it’s just where we are.” And: “People who continue to blame New World Screwworm crisis on the Biden Administration need to stop. The Secretary has had 15 months to prepare a competent response, and despite what some are saying, the response has been lackluster and unserious.”
The harsh reality is that you will be seeing more of these New World Screwworm (NWS) confirmations every 24-72 hours for the next few months—it’s really tragic

Meriweather Farms — which was founded by CEO Catharine O’Neill Gillihan, who worked on the Trump 2016 presidential campaign and served at both the U.S. Department of State and the US Agency for International Development during the first Trump administration — also criticized Trump in October regarding beef from Argentina.
The company wrote on social media: “We love you and support you— but your suggestion to buy beef from Argentina to stabilize beef prices would be an absolute betrayal to the American cattle rancher.”

We love you and support you— but your suggestion to buy beef from Argentina to stabilize beef prices would be an absolute betrayal to the American cattle rancher.
We understand there are larger economic and geopolitical dynamics at play, including countering…
Meriweather Farms added: “On top of all this — there is only chaos coming from the Department of Agriculture. There is no true guidance, mixed messaging, and a copious amount of photo ops. There is no one to trust over there that truly understands the issues and isn’t bought out by or aligned with Big Industries. The American cattle rancher is one of the last symbols of independence we have in the nation — but the continued manipulation and betrayal by the very people who claim to support them, needs to end immediately…There are so many voices on the outside that support you and want to see you succeed. Maybe it’s time to start listening to them. Your team knows how to get in touch with us.”
