The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to proceed with its annual “Muslim Day” on Monday at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) reacted to the scheduled community event on social media today, writing: “CAIR, a designated foreign terrorist organization under state law, has called for a presence around the Florida Capitol today. I’ve requested law enforcement to be on heightened alert for any possible security threats. Further, terrorist organizations are barred from using any and all state resources, and we expect the governor’s executive order to be upheld. Alert FDLE and FHP immediately if you see suspicious activity.”
[NOTE: Governor Ron DeSantis last year designated CAIR as a terrorist group in Florida.]

CAIR National responded to Uthmeier’s post: “The thought of Florida Muslims exercising their constitutional right to visit the State Capitol and meet with their elected officials might terrifiy [sic] keyboard warriors like @AGJamesUthmeier. But Mr. Uthmeier’s cowardice and his contempt for the Constitution are his problems, not ours.
“Every year, @CAIRFlorida and the Florida Muslim community host Muslim Day at the State Capitol. During the event, Florida Muslims from across the state visit the state legislature, meet with their elected officials and discuss important issues, including free speech, religious freedom and civil rights.”
CAIR also detailed its agenda for the day in Tallahassee, including a priority on stopping “pieces of legislation that would give the Florida governor unchecked power to use secret evidence to instantly criminalize any American nonprofit organization he dislikes without any due process.”
CAIR followed its priority list with a warning, writing: “No politician has no right to interfere with Floridians exercising their rights, and if they dare to do so, they should expect to find themselves in court answering to a federal judge. The Florida Muslim community looks forward to, God willing, a positive and productive day at the State Capitol.”

In another issue also related to DeSantis’s designation of CAIR as a “terrorist” organization, CAIR Litigation Director Lena Masri today welcomed a ruling by a federal judge that ordered MAGA influencer Laura Loomer to complete her remaining settlement payments to CAIR, which she began making in 2023.
“We welcome this judicial ruling ordering Laura Loomer to complete her monthly payments to CAIR Legal Defense Fund and fully satisfy the attorney’s fees she owes us as a result of her failed lawsuit.
“Since Ms. Loomer began sending her payments to CAIR in 2023, our attorneys have used her funds to provide legal representation to the American Muslim community and advance free speech, religious freedom, and civil rights for everyone in our nation.
“We look forward to receiving Ms. Loomer’s final payments and using the funds to once again protect American Muslims and our neighbors from hate.”
[In 2022, Loomer sued CAIR for allegedly “forcing Twitter to ban her from the social media platform.” When DeSantis last year proclaimed CAIR as a terrorist group, Loomer filed a motion with a federal court asking for permission to withhold her remaining payments to CAIR. A court has now rejected her request. Note: Loomer was required to make payments to compensate CAIR for attorney’s fees as a result of her suit.]
