President Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence wrote today on the fifth anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol and shared part of the speech he delivered at the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award ceremony last year.
Pence wrote: “I will always believe that, by God’s grace, I did my duty to see to the peaceful transfer of power under the Constitution and I expressed my heartfelt gratitude to the countless Americans of every background who have reached out with a word of encouragement these past five years.”
The former VP added: “January 6 was a tragic day but it became a triumph of freedom when, after Capitol Police quelled the violence, leaders in both chambers in both political parties reconvened the very same day and finished democracy’s work under the Constitution.”
On this fifth anniversary of January 6th, I wanted to pass along remarks I made about that fateful day at the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award ceremony last year.

Continuing to express the enmity Pence has faced since that day, when some rioters chanted “hang Mike Pence,” numerous MAGA supporters responded to Pence’s post with insults and claims that Pence is a “traitor.”
Pardoned Jan6er Ryan Nichols Sr. replied to Pence: “You caved. I should have drug your [expletive] through the streets like I said I was going to.. You deserved it.”
Nichols also today wrote a long post commemorating the January 6 attack and said he would not be in Washington, D.C. today as “many of my friends will be,” those who “walked through the fire that day.”
Nichols added: “January 6 was a moment in my life. It does not define my future, even though it will always be part of my story. I am proud to say I was a January 6 defendant. I am proud to say I was pardoned by the President of the United States. I am proud to say I stood up when I believed something was wrong. I am also the only January 6 defendant who has it on the official court record that my due process rights were violated.”
Today marks the fifth anniversary of January 6.

I will not be in Washington, D.C. today.
Many of my friends will be. Many brothers and sisters who walked through the fire of that day and the years that followed will be there. I wish every single one of them safe travels, clear… pic.twitter.com/Jmd4E36rZz
The one thing Nichols and Pence have in common is their admission that they don’t always agree with President Trump. Nichols wrote: “President Trump is human. Like all of us. He does not get everything right. Neither do I. But he did right by me, and I will always acknowledge that.”
